The Child Sexual Offence Evidence Program commenced in March 2016 in NSW. The program is designed to record evidence of child witnesses in a pre-recorded format before the commencement of trial. This allows child witnesses to give their evidence in a less confrontational and more relaxed setting.
The program aims to help children understand questions and answer correctly by allowing “trained witness intermediaries” to guide them. The system’s goal is to reduce the child’s anxiety and distress and raise the quality of evidence.
